Winners, Placings & New Horses

The team had a very successful week last week with a double at Redcar and a two-year-old second time out winner! It was a fantastic start to the week last Tuesday where Gressington set the bar high by winning his race by several lengths. Ed dropped him back in trip and added headgear to help him focus on the job in hand and it worked extremely well. He ran a fantastic race and we were all thrilled to see him get his head in front again this year, if the ground allows he will run again this season but we have to be on weather watch as it seems as though the taps from upstairs have been turned on after all this rain we have had, although the soft ground horses are enjoying it. See That Storm was not going to be outdone by his stable friend at Redcar and won his race, he has had a brilliant start at our stables having won all of his starts from the yard making it three out of three wins. He was bought from the horses in training sale at Tattersalls in July, he has a fantastic character and has settled into the yard very well, after his great performances he will now have a break before his next campaign.

The following day on Wednesday Surprised was not going to be outdone by the boys from the day before and flew the flag for the girls. She was having her second run at Beverley and she showed how much she had learnt from her debut run from a few weeks previously. She won in great style and showed how much raw talent she has, not only did she win but she also won the Great British Bonus which is allowed to be won by fillies who are British bred, so she added an extra £20,000 to her winning pot, not a bad days work! A huge well done to her owners who also bred her which is a great achievement in itself to have bred and horse and to see them winning on the track, definitely a filly to watch for next season once she has filled out into her frame more.

The team had three more seconds to add to the tally of very nearly winners, the first being Counting Cards who was having his third run of his career to come second and showed how much talent he has, he is a big framed horse who is going to come on so much over the winter when he has his winter break. He is a very exciting horse to have on the yard and also for his owners who are a micro share syndicate which is a great way to get people involved in horse racing at a fraction of the price.

Chillingham ran a huge race at Newbury on Saturday who was running in the Autumn Cup Handicap under William Buick, the going was heavy which suited Chillingham and he ran a fantastic race, he didn’t have an ideal draw having been drawn on the outside but this didn’t stop him from running very well. He stayed and galloped to the line very well, he was just beaten to the post by a very good dual winning horse, 11 year old Oh So Sleepy. Everyone was so thrilled with how he ran and he showed how much class and talent he has, he will now head to the November handicap (hopefully its not at Newcastle on the all weather like it was last year due to the very heavy going).

Another good week for the team, the horses and the owners last week and we look forward to this week which runners around the country. We have two running at Pontefract tomorrow, Kirkdale & Sectarius run for the team and we look forward to seeing them both run, Kirkdale is running for our in-house syndicate Clarendon Thoroughbreds and Sectarius is running for the first time from the yard for his owners where he has run in Ireland previously.

On Friday and Saturday we have serval runners, Minstrel Knight runs at Haydock & we have several entries at Haydock, Newmarket & Ripon. Please click the link to see the entries and runners:

It is a very busy time of year with the yearling sales and season in full swing and in parallel with each other. We have a new yearling that has been added to our growing team of yearlings, he is a very striking colt by the very successful sire Ghaiyyath, Ed was taken by not only his pedigree but also his physique and his walk to match, you can see more of his details for sale on our horses for sales page.

The horses are all in great form as the results are speaking for themselves even if we are having a few seconds to add to the tally too! We have a healthy strike rate of 18% which makes the boss happy as he loves his statistics! The horses are showing a how amount of well being and seem to be rather fresh on their daily exercise too, this is great to see as it has been a long season and the weather hasn’t been the greatest with a rather cold and wet summer. We are very much looking forward to seeing the horses running this autumn and to see the softer ground horses running on the turf and to see some of the bigger more backwards type of two-year-olds running on the all weather if the turf going isn’t what they need. Some of the horses have started their holidays as the ground has gone against them and it is unlikely that the ground will come back to being goof to firm. Regional & Point Lynas are very much enjoying their very well deserved holiday and are the best of friends in the the paddock as well as living next to each other when they are stabled too!
