Two Winners!
Last week saw two very promising 3yos make their season debut and both won each of their races. The first winner of the week was Old Cock who won at Ayr on Monday (29th April). He won very convincingly under a confident ride from Callum Rodriguez. He travelled throughout his race with confidence and class; he won by several lengths. Our second winner of the week was Paborus on Thursday (2nd May) who won at Redcar also under Callum, he led throughout the race and pulled away from the rest of the field in the last couple of furlongs who also won by several lengths. It is fantastic to see these two horses win, not only for the yard but also for their patient owners who have allowed Ed to give them the time that they have needed as a 2yo’s. They are both two tall individuals with strong frames who didn’t need rushing last year. The time and patience have paid off coming into their 3yo season, and it is so exciting to see where the season will take them.
It is definitely a busier time of the year now with the horseboxes consistently on the road racing, the weather has been far kinder to us with far less rain that what we have been used, which has allowed us to get the horses racing. Ed has been able to gallop some of the horses on the grass gallops, but we need it to dry up a bit more to be able to do more galloping on grass at home. The horses are all looking fantastic in themselves, their coats have all come through and they are holding a good amount of condition going into the season.
We have our first Clarendon Open Morning of the year on Thursday which we are all looking forward to, this is a great opportunity for the shareholders to meet up and to see all of the Clarendon horses train on the gallops along side some of our other yard superstars. The morning will consist of a parade of all of the Clarendon horses followed by watching them train on the gallops which will then be followed by some light delicious refreshments. It will be fantastic to see everyone and we hope the sun stays out to top off what we hope will be a fabulous morning.
We have a few runners and entries this week. Kings merchant runs at Chester on Wednesday at 2.35pm under Oisin Murphy, Oviedo also runs at Chester, he runs on Friday in the Huxley Stakes (Group 2). Angel of England has been entered for his debut run of the season at Ascot on Friday. Saturday sees entries for Thewind Cries Mary at Leicster & Nottingham and Mountain Warrior at Nottingham. Naepoint has an entry for Newcastle on Sunday in a race worth £27,000. Fingers crossed for the horses entered this week and where they will be declared to run. Good luck to the team and to all owners and connections.
