Kings Merchant Wins!
Kings Merchant set the weekend off in the correct way by winning very comfortably under Callum Rodriguez. The journey down to Wolverhampton was worth it and the race that he ran was superb as he showed his class. It was a fantastic win for his owners Hope Eden Racing Syndicate and all of the syndicate members involved. Saturday also saw Cabrera running in her debut run at Newcastle where she ran a brilliant race under Rowan Scott. She finished 4th in a strong field and ran her race brilliantly, she has a fantastic temperament and this showed from the way she was in the stable yard through to how she ran her race; it will be very exciting to see her progress this summer.
As March comes to a close and we look forward to the Easter weekend with a couple of potential runners we reflect on a month that has been a building time with the lead up to the turf season which officially kicked off over the weekend, we are very much looking forward to seeing our horses run on the turf. Ed has been saving the majority of his team of horses for the turf which has seen the all-weather quieter, some of the horses will now start to have their first runs of the year on the all-weather before running on the turf as the ground for these types of horses is too soft but they are ready to run and to get some more experience before hitting the turf. Tomorrow we see Mickley run in the 6.15pm race over 7f at Southwell.
March has been busy at home with the new barn in its final stages of being finalised, this week it sees the stables being finished off inside, with the electricity and plumbing going in too. Hopefully, we are only about one week away from putting the horses into it which is verryyyyyy exciting. We have been very fortunate to have been able to rent a barn very locally to have the 2yo’s housed over the winter in while our new barn has been built out team have been fantastic in making the mornings run smoothly. We are all looking forward to have the horses in the new barn and to see it up and running!
This past month has seen horses stepping up their work in preparation for the turf season along with some of the 2yo’s cantering upsides. Not all of the 2yo’s have been cantering upsides as they haven’t quite been ready to do so physically or mentally but are each coming along in their own way. All of the 2yo’s are coming on very well and Ed is delighted with how all of them are progressing.
This week we look forward Mickley running tomorrow at Southwell (Tuesday). Other entries we have this week are Mountain Warrior at Southwell (Thursday), Quandary at Lingfield (Friday), Chillingham & Initio at Musselburgh (Saturday) and Cavalier Approach at Southwell (Sunday).
We look forward to the week ahead with our runners and entries & we also look forward to the Easter weekend ahead when I’m sure lots of chocolate will be consumed by everyone!
