Brilliant Bargain Bolts Up.
On Friday (03/09/21) Regional made his first appearance on a racecourse for Bethell Racing and an excellent one it was. Making all Regional continued to quicken finishing strongly with his head in front. Finishing over a length behind him was the Shergar Cup Sprint winner Mitrosonfire. It must be agreed that this result does sound unbelievable from a 3,500 gns purchase. Regionals impressive £13,500 first-place prize has certainly earned him his place in the yard. Ed shares the credit on sourcing this young horse with Tom Biggs from Blandford Bloodstock. Biggs further assisted ed in sourcing our well-known stable star Fearby. Clearly, a duo who must be watched at future sales! The future looks bright for 3yo Regional, a very exciting prospect to have within the forever growing yard.
Ed gains his first Group WINNER!
Artistic Rifles bravely made all in the Group 3 Superior Mile at Haydock under a cracking ride from Andrea, setting a strong yet comfortable pace on his most favoured quick ground. Artistic Rifles the lowest-rated horse (102) in the race continued to cruise home as his rivals struggled to claim back the ground, which they had already lost to him. This was noted by the commentator who expressed that Artistic Rifles was leaving the rest of the field to participate in a game of catch me if you can!
This win made history for Ed, a phenomenal achievement to gain his first group winner within his very first season as a trainer. Father James was quick to express his delight for Ed, it was even acclaimed there was a tear in his eye! (Who would believe it?). The team at home were all delighted to be part of this win and I am sure they all agree that credit must be given to Liam Reeves who has done a terrific job with this horse from day one.
To be expected Artistic Rifles will not be missed by the handicapper. However, we can all be assured that with his training performance so far Ed will make the correct decision upon selecting the next most suitable race for Artistic Rifles. The burning question remains; will the most suitable race be on British soil or overseas?
It is clear that Ed is a natural in the trainer’s seat with both Artistic Rifles and Regional being perfect illustrations to represent the improvement Ed can make to a horse of their type. With a strong ambitious team behind him, we all hope that the success of Bethell Racing will continue.
