We had a terribly sad day yesterday at Newcastle races. Belle De Lawers sadly had to be put to sleep after sustaining a very serious injury. There was nothing we or the racecourse vets could do and the way everything was dealt with at Newcastle racecourse was second to none. I want to offer our condolences to Mr Gibbons who of course owned and bred Belle De Lawers.
We will live in memory of a filly that showed great tenacity and will to win throughout her career. She dropped a bomb shell by winning her maiden by 4 lengths first up and after that ran in stakes races. She was well travelled having been sold to America. She eventually came back and ran her heart out for us. She was a total pleasure to train and forever went about her business like a true professional would. She was a yard favourite amongst all the guys/girls in the yard. They looked after her day in and out and cared for her like all our horses.
We would like to thank all the support we have had over the past twenty four hours.
In other news we have Fruit Salad declared to run at Southwell on Sunday. She was bucking and squealing this morning and I am looking forward to getting her to the track. She has never encountered the fibresand at Southwell. However, her sister Princess Peaches won at Southwell so we are hopeful it may bring out some improvement.
